Bloomers were baggy underpants for women, derived from the 19th century garment worn by American Women’s Right Activist Amelia Jenks Bloomer (1818 – 1894)
She was a Feminist and Social Reformer.
She owned, edited and published the first Newspaper for women, The Lily – she promoted abolition, temperance, Woman’s suffrage, higher education for women and marriage law reform.
Elizabeth Smith Miller invented bloomers.
